What time is it? Party time! You've probably only been looking forward to this short but promising part of your life for the past, oh, four or five years? It has finally arrived! Well done, you. Below we'll give you a quick rundown of one of the most popular Schoolies destinations anywhere in Australia…
The name has become an institution, not only among Schoolies, but throughout the world. It offers the prospective tourist with just about anything he or she can wish for. No wonder this spit of divine land draws more than 4 million tourists annually.
Surfer's Paradise is situated between the world renowned Surfer's Paradise Beach and the Nerang river. It not only boasts with the world's tallest residential tower, the Q1, but can provide a breathtaking view from Byron to Brisbane if you stand at the right spot on a clear day.
And speaking of clear days, there's always the aforementioned beach which, if this is your destination, you're bound to end up on.
Catch a few waves or just lie in the sun, the choice is yours. You'll find the streets lined with restaurants all competing to spoil the prospective customer (you) with aromas and foods to melt any palette into exquisite ecstasy.
Oh, and just in case you're wondering where other like minded suddenly-free individuals congregate when the sun goes down, look no further than the Gold Cost Highway, Orchid Avenue and, of course, the famous Cavill Avenue. Speaking of which, Cavill Avenue also boasts with a popular and attractive daytime persona.
In short, there are shops - shops that not only trade in the latest and most laid back in terms of surf wear, but also food, souvenirs (for your little brother) and much, much more. Our advice: time to count the contents of your piggy bank (or maybe hide it away).
Where to sleep? Hmmm...
If you haven't made your reservations yet, then there's not time like the present! Due to Surfer's Paradise's popularity, accommodation is usually in short supply as the Schoolies week draws closer. But then again, there are alternatives...
A stone's throw away from all the Schoolies action, Broadbeach can compete with the best of them and provides the prospective party animal (you) not only with some fine choice in accommodation, but also shops, a variety of restaurants all specializing in different cuisines and, of course, dreamy beaches where the sunshine lives eternal (or should, by Hollywood standards).
If you're headed this way, be sure to check out the Kurrawa Surf Club: extensive menu, excellent food and a good selection of beverages (they've got non-alcoholic, too) – all at really good prices.
Time to go sailing! Main Beach provides an upmarket point of view in terms of an established community and is home to the Southport Yacht Club as well as the Southport Surf Lifesaving Club.
As this is a popular tourist destination, you might just have some luck finding a place to lay your head when there's no more energy to party. And when you wake up, why not pay a visit to Sea World? The fish will enjoy the company while you enjoy their calming, dreamy motion… until it’s time for the next crazy Schoolies event
